Dhill, Vikram’s second blockbuster, was released in 2001. At the box office, the film grossed more than Rs. 100 million. The following year, in 2002, Vikram’s next blockbuster, Gemini, was released. It earned more than Rs. 200 million at the box office.

Shankar cast him in his high-budget Anniyan after seeing his successful performance. Anniyan, another top-grossing film released in 2005, earned him a Filmfare Best Tamil Actor Award.
