Shanudrie was born into a well known Sri Lankan film family. Her father Dinesh Priyasad is a celebrated filmmaker, and her mother Shirani Priyasad is a film producer. She is the youngest of three daughters. Her older sisters Dinakshie Priyasad and Sheshadri Priyasad are also popular actresses and television personalities.
